Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
