The controversial, American and Israeli-supported Gaza relief foundation says it is terminating its humanitarian work in the affected area, following nearly half a year.

The foundation had already suspended its multiple aid distribution centers in Gaza following the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel took effect six weeks ago.

The organization attempted to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of aid to Gaza's population.

United Nations organizations and other humanitarian groups refused to co-operate with its methodology, stating it was improper and dangerous.

Hundreds of Palestinians were killed while seeking food amid disorderly situations near the foundation's locations, mainly through Israeli military action, based on UN documentation.

Israel said its troops fired warning shots.

Program Termination

The GHF said on the beginning of the week that it was terminating work now because of the "effective conclusion of its humanitarian effort", with a total of three million packages containing the equivalent of more than 187 million meals provided to residents.

The GHF's executive director, the executive director, also said the American-directed Civil-Military Coordination Center - which has been created to help execute the American administration's Gaza initiative - would be "adopting and expanding the approach the organization demonstrated".

"The foundation's approach, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, was significantly influential in getting Hamas to the table and securing a halt in hostilities."

Comments and Positions

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - approved the termination of the aid organization, based on information.

A representative of stated the foundation should be made responsible for the negative impact it created to Palestinians.

"We call upon all worldwide humanitarian bodies to ensure that it does not escape accountability after leading to casualties and wounds of numerous Palestinians and obscuring the starvation policy implemented by the Israeli government."

Foundation History

The foundation started work in Gaza on late May, a week after Israeli authorities had somewhat relaxed a total blockade on humanitarian and trade shipments to Gaza that lasted 11 weeks and resulted in critical deficits of vital resources.

Subsequently, a nutritional emergency was proclaimed in the Gaza metropolitan area.

The GHF's food distribution sites in various parts of the Palestinian territory were managed by American private security firms and positioned in regions under Israeli military authority.

Humanitarian Concerns

The UN and its partners said the system violated the core assistance standards of objectivity, fairness and autonomy, and that channelling desperate people into military-controlled areas was intrinsically hazardous.

The UN's human rights office said it recorded the killing of at least 859 Palestinians trying to acquire sustenance in the vicinity of GHF sites between spring and summer months.

A further 514 persons were killed near the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it also mentioned.

The greater part of these people were fatally wounded by the Israel's armed forces, as per the organization's documentation.

Contrasting Reports

Israeli defense forces said its forces had discharged cautionary rounds at individuals who came near them in a "intimidating" fashion.

The foundation stated there were no shootings at the relief locations and accused the UN of using "untrue and confusing" figures from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Future Implications

The organization's continuation had been indefinite since Hamas and Israel agreed a truce agreement to execute the primary segment of the American administration's peace initiative.

The agreement stated humanitarian assistance would take place "without interference from the two parties through the UN organizations and their partners, and the humanitarian medical organization, in conjunction with other international institutions not connected in any way" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

International organization official the UN spokesman stated recently that the foundation's closure would have "no impact" on its activities "since we never collaborated with them".

The spokesperson additionally stated that while more aid was getting into Gaza since the truce was implemented on 10 October, it was "insufficient to meet all the needs" of the over two million inhabitants.
