Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the US has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
