Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a record £11m in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
