First-choice XI

Dean Henderson Not a save to make in the first half before forced to intervene from Arbër Hoxha’s curled attempt. His sliding tackle on an Albanian attacker demonstrated excellent reading of the game. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Tested by Albania’s primary attacker through Hoxha. Operated through the middle initially later drifted wider after a teammate entered the fray. 7

The defender Advanced into midfield on the ball, something he's known for before. At times was too casual on the ball and the approach discontinued by the interval. 6

The tall defender A nuisance from dead balls, typically, but may be another option to his teammate in defense rather than paired with him. One wayward pass in the second half almost led to a goal for Albania. 6

Nico O’Reilly A further confident showing from the 20-year-old after his debut versus Serbia. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of a clever touch over the opposing backline. His position is his to lose already. Seven

Adam Wharton His first start for his country. Somewhat sloppy when playing out however his whipped deliveries caused problems. An effective tempo-setter available to the coach to have versus defensive opponents. Booked after a reckless foul. 6/10

The midfielder Crosses from dead balls and free kicks were dangerous. Was given room to move in left midfield but was in an offside position as the pass came with a chance to score. Awarded a well-earned break after an hour. 6/10

Jude Bellingham Functioned in a high role out wide while also did plenty of defensive duties. Displayed flashes of quality and dragged a shot over. Withdrawn towards the end for a teammate, a fellow player, following a yellow card. 7/10

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with the team's top opening before halftime, his shot smartly stopped by Thomas Strakosha. With Quansah holding position, he had to provide width on the right but his crosses into the box varied in quality. Replaced late in the match. Six

Harry Kane The decisive figure with his two more finishes at international level. The first a trademark close-range tap-in and the second a classy headed goal having drifted away off his defender. At 32, he’s only getting better and England stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament with him leading the line. Eight

Eberechi Eze Struggled to make an impact from the left. Was presented with a decent opportunity after being played in from a teammate but Strakosha kept it out. Rashford had a greater influence after coming on. 5
